Teaching Roundtable (10/26/10)

Dr. Rader and Dr. Gorski engaged a group of GSSA and PSA members, sharing their thoughts on how they’ve developed their methods and conceptions of teaching at the university level.

Among the highlights of the workshop were insights into the value of–and potential to promote–social justice in the classroom. They also shared ways to entice students to “dig deeper” and engage in critical thinking. In the photo below, Dr. Gorski argued that instructors should orient their classes to reach the 20% of students who are most engaged and conscientious, rather than the least engaged 20% or the 60% of students in the middle.

Thanks to both Dr. Gorski and Dr. Rader for their invaluable knowledge, support, motivation, and thoughts for promoting critical thinking and social justice through education.
